@Talahar -- if you have the Cloverfield DVD, the monster awakening and attacking the Chaui platform is one of the hidden easter eggs. :)

Anyhoo, the ARG answer for what the thing falling from the sky is was a satellite -- the recovery of which led to the discovery of the monster. However, it's really up to each viewer to decide what's "right" for them.

@Neko
If you follow just the movie, you are totally right. The movie suggests that the monster did indeed come from outer space. The alternate reality game they did on the internet with pages like www.slusho.jp and others suggests something different: the monster comes deep out of the sea, woken up by drills for the secret incredient of "slusho!", ocean juice (or so, cant remember right now). There was also a video out there where 'something' destroyed a drill rig out at sea... but that was something only those people who followed each and every lead would get.

I couldn't get myself to watch this movie due to what I've heard about it, but if the Baddest Man in Gaming says its good...Please make a monster that is a giant hand and call him "High 5"...I would level him up in a heartbeat.

hello,

I have maybe an answer for one of your question : the thing seemed to come from space.
At the end of the movie, when we see the guy and his girlfriend at the entertainment park, there is a scene where we look at the sea behind the actor : near a boat something fall from the sky : a meteor - or the monster...

I like Cloverfield. It's a cool movie but I have a little problem with the monster : sometime it seemed to be huge and other time (when it ate the cameraman for example), it was not so high.

I loved Cloverfield... The "filmed with a handcamera"-thing is getting old though.
They did it back in the day with Blair Witch Project, and it sucked then. It still does. Cloverfield did it better though, and it was scary to see a street level point of view while a monster rampaged through your city. The fact that they showed more and more of the creature as the movie went on was very well done and the creature looked awesome enough for that not to be a let down. And interestingly enough, I thought the headache I had when I came out of the movie theater was a good thing. "Ouch. They did it right. ^.^" Overall, I enjoyed the movie. But I wonder what a sequel would look like, should they indeed make one. But we'll see...
